Writer’s Resources…

As a resource to others who are working to establish themselves as authors or writers in any field, I would like to create a repository of useful writing links. Sites that are “common knowledge” to some may be just the gold mine someone else was searching for! Where useful, I will try to include a brief description. If you have a link to add, comment or email me and I will check it out!  (Let’s avoid general blogs for now, unless they focus specifically on one aspect of the writing business such as “QueryShark”– the goal is to keep things streamlined and easy to find).  Enjoy!

Writing for Children:

  • Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators – SCBWI (note, this site has its own links page with useful info on copyright, awards, and other professional organizations): http://www.scbwi.org/
  • The Purple Crayon – Honestly, Harold Underdown’s site has so many great links you almost don’t need any more than that and SCBWI! http://www.underdown.org/

Writing for Adults:

“Paying Gigs” — Useful links for freelance writers:

Information on agents:

  • Manuscript Wish List (MSWL) (An excellent resource for finding an agent, the site also lets you sign up for a newsletter with good querying tips): http://www.manuscriptwishlist.com/
  • MSWishList (Filters Tweets from Agents and on popular agent-based topics like tenqueries and pubtip): http://mswishlist.com/

Industry News:

  • Publisher’s Marketplace:  Not all content is accessible without membership, but there is a lot of information on recent deals (good for finding out about agents), publishing houses, etc:  http://www.publishersmarketplace.com/
